More than fifty years ago, Nissan participated in the East African Rally with the 240Z. To pay tribute to this legendary car, the Japanese manufacturer unveils a rally Juke that fills the 1970 coupe. If the machine is currently a prototype, it still looks ready to overlook the dunes of the desert. , and why not attend rally-raid events. Such as Dakar.

Aesthetically, this Juke Hybrid Rally Tribute no longer has much to do with standard Juke. The compact SUV has a black bonnet, has vintage sponsor logos and is equipped with enlarged wheel arches to accommodate specially designed 265/70 R16 off-road tires. Additional lights are also mounted on the hood and on the roof, just to allow him to overlook the desert at night in all serenity.

At the rear, two large exhaust outlets are located in the center of the shield, which overlooks a diffuser.

The rear window has completely disappeared to reveal the two huge spare wheels, which are fitted instead of the rear seat.

The Juke Hybrid Rally Tribute is also equipped with roof racks.

On the mechanical side, this rally prototype Nissan Juke is not really a racing animal.

It is powered by a new 1.6 hybrid engine, which was to land on the production model. It consists of a 94 hp petrol unit for 148 Nm of torque, connected to a 49 hp electric motor for 205 Nm of torque and a high-voltage generator starter, which provides an additional 20 hp.

A 1.2 kWh water-cooled battery is also present.

It uses biofuels to consume less

According to Nissan, this engine would offer “25% more power than the current petrol engine, with a 20% reduction in fuel consumption in the combined cycle”. This is thanks to the use of biofuels supplied by the oil company Shell, which was already a partner with Nissan during the East African Rally in 1971, in which 240Z participated.

Note that the Juke Hybrid Rally Tribute is also equipped with the multimode automatic transmission found on the standard Juke, as well as reinforced, long-distance suspension.

Inevitably, the cabin of the SUV also undergoes changes. If the dashboard does not really change, Nissan has still installed a tubular bracket “to brace the hull”. The seats are now equipped with four-point seat belts to secure the pilot and his co-pilot as much as possible. Other rally-raid-specific equipment has also been added, such as an “to facilitate communication” intercom, a high-handle hydraulic handbrake and even a “competition-approved fire extinguisher”.

At the time of writing, Nissan is not saying whether this prototype of the Juke Hybrid Rally Tribute will give rise to a real model dedicated to competition. The manufacturer has already previously marketed sports versions of its crossover with the Juke-R or even the Juke Nismo RS.

Shortly said

A Nissan Juke on Dakar is clearly a fantasy. However, Nissan is actually developing a rally-raid Juke. Called the Juke Hybrid Rally Tribute, this fun version of the SUV features extra headlights, huge off-road tires, extended wheel arches and two large rear exhaust outlets. Its rear seat has completely disappeared to make room for two spare wheels, and its cabin has a tubular roll bar for more safety. The engine itself consists of a simple 1.6 hybrid consisting of a 94 hp petrol unit, a 49 hp electric motor and a 20 hp starter generator. Nissan does not say whether this Juke Hybrid Rally Tribute will really see the light of day or not.
