de-France – Valenciennes: Robin realizes the portrait of your animals

A few years ago, Robin Del, 26, started making portraits of pets on his own. Photos with photo-realistic quality that delight customers who love their hairballs.

From studies in plastic art to the realization of animal portraits

This young man from Valenciennes, who works as a cultural communicator at MusVerre in the Sars-Poteries in the Avesnois region, has a degree in plastic arts and a master’s degree in MEEF (Teaching, Education and Training). His passion for painting, Robin has a hard time explaining it except by highlighting his “curiosity“natural:”After a matriculation exam, I decided to go into the plastic arts, first I made paintings as part of my study projects, then I decided to take animal portraits“.

A childhood surrounded by animals

It is much easier to understand Robin’s fascination with animal models: “I grew up surrounded by animals, dogs, cats, rabbits, turtles, my parents bred a little from time to time“.

To create the portraits of our four-legged friends, Robin works from the images his clients have provided: “I ask for a reference image, this is what will be used to represent the animal on the canvas and other photos, to try to better understand the morphology, expression and character of the animal.“.

What is the difference between drawing the portrait of a human and that of an animal? “It’s not really there, it’s just a matter of technique … Well yes, there may be the fact that human skin is smoother, while animals require real precision work to honor their fur (laughs) ”.

The painter Robin Del goes into great detail, like here where he polishes the irises of a feline with a brush.

Photorealism and attention to detail

The artist works mainly in oil painting on canvases of various sizes: “I also think I will offer watercolors or pencil work in the future“. The realization of a canvas requires the young painter several weeks of work, counting the times for exposure and drying of the canvas: “It’s hard to judge, but compared to pure painting time, I think I can spend a day or two on a canvas.but I can not see time go by when I paintHe smiles. A very time consuming job, especially since Robin as a good perfectionist and thank these models have an eye for detail: “If I listened to myself, I would never stop adding more ! (laughs) “

An abstract and colorful background, a touch of modernity to these animal portraits

The animals painted by Robin are all represented on abstract backgrounds, which gives an aesthetic and contemporary side to his works, which one can very easily imagine adorning the living room wall of a modern loft: “I like the contrast created by the background, generally my clients let me improvise, but I listen to them if they have specific wishes.“.

Dogs, cats and maybe one day iguanas and birds

At the time of writing these lines, the young artist has only had the opportunity to paint dogs and cats on these canvases, but he remains open to any order, especially from the NAC (New Pets) side. : “I would like to paint furry or scaly animals“. Speaking of challenge, Robin has just been ordered a one meter canvas on which he will represent a family’s different pets.

On the price side, it will take 150 euros for a canvas of 150 × 70 cm, the prices can vary depending on the size of the canvas and the customers’ specific wishes.
