On the eve of the parliamentary elections, France Nature Environnement (FNE) analyzed the environmental proposals of three political parties and coalitions. en ” hero result », a five-point grading system, was awarded to them according to the relevance of their program. If the association claims to have indicated that of “main parties”National Rally is not among them.
The general election is approaching. On this occasion, the French Society for the Environment (FNE) evaluated the national program of three political parties and coalitions, given that this choice is doubly important in the light of the climate and ecological challenge. “Less published than the presidential election, these elections are nonetheless important for the ecological transformation”, says a press release. “We are sorry that these proposals have not been made today, more than the subject itself »entrusts Morgane Piederrière, head of advocacy at FNE.
By analyzing each program, the association assigned a ” hero result », and thus reminiscent of their logo in the form of a hedgehog, to the coalitions Together! , Nupes and Republican Party. This evaluation system focuses on the promises of the various leaders, both on the conservation of biodiversity and the fight against global warming. While it is specified that the different local applications may vary the national programs. However, the proposals from the National Rally were not mentioned. FNE explains it with one “incompatibility between strong values” .
Nupes more convincing than its competitors according to FNE
That “hericores” take into account all attitudes and suggestions on the themes of climate, biodiversity, health-environment and the way to govern. Thus, each of them is scored on five points – drawn in the shape of a hedgehog – leading to an overall synthesis. This reveals a lack of measures to ensure the ecological conversion. ‘Members of Parliament can do a lotdeclared Arnaud Schwartz, President of the FNE. During this term, regardless of the majority, if we want to keep our commitments and act while there is still time, our deputies must commit themselves to ensuring that the ecological transition is in each of the texts they will vote on, the thread red of their mandate“.
On the three programs examined, FNE shows different observations. If she seems to remain skeptical of the proposals Emmanuel Macron has raised, Nupes will get a much better score. FNE observes in this coalition “a much richer and more detailed program than the other parties on ecology”. On the other hand, she regrets the lack of action in the program of the Les Républicains party.
A skeptical look at Emmanuel Macron’s program
The program for the Together! Coalition, defended by Emmanuel Macron throughout the presidential campaign, achieves a “hericore” three out of five. A result explained by the mixed opinion of the FNE. For the association, the chairman must prove his ambition of one “great ecological nation”. But its “concrete measures still seem too timid or permeated by the belief that technology can save everything”, nuances the FNE in its evaluation. In particular, the association regrets the lack of commitment on the part of the Head of State on the issue of subsidies that are harmful to biodiversity and “leverage for the environmental conditions of aid”.

In general, FNE believes that Emmanuel Macron does not offer enough solutions to protect the environment. “Emmanuel Macron announces that he wants to” always better protect our coasts, mountains, forests and natural spaces “. We can only rejoice in the intention, but very few concrete measures show this will.”indicates »hero result ». Despite the vagueness of certain proposals, such as those relating to the fertilization of soil or the protection of vulnerable species and “critically endangered”The association notes the absence of measures for animal welfare, especially breeding, and the resumption of proposals in favor of hunters.
Finally, the FNE notes that some proposals are not in line with the current situation, especially with regard to forests. “He wants to plant 140 million trees by the end of the decade, that means less than at the moment!”, insists FNE. According to its experts, 60 million trees would be planted each year, against 28 million according to the promise of Emmanuel Macron. One of his proposals also evokes the creation of the Fête de la nature. However, it has already existed for ten years.
Biodiversity measures are lacking from Republicans
On all their proposals, the Republicans do not satisfy the FNE and award them a ” hero result » two out of five. If the association observes “a certain reflection” on certain topics, such as plastic reduction, water management or the circular economy, “Environmental issues are not a priority in this program”, she points out. Several booklets supplement the party’s environmental proposals, but none of them are based on biodiversity.
On this theme, the FNE does not see proposals for the expansion of protected areas. The word does not even appear in the presentation of their ” project for France ». The association also notes the lack of concrete measures regarding natural environments, such as forests or oceans, artificialization of land or even animal welfare, with positions “in favor of hunting methods that are harmful to biodiversity”.

Nupes do not go far enough on protected sea areas
Best score with four points out of five, for Nupes. FNE perceives the Left Coalition’s program as ” much richer and more detailed than the other parties on ecology ” with “a real awareness of the subject of biodiversity”. Compared to its competitors, Nupes does not have the same priorities, especially with regard to forests. The Left Alliance is thinking about “rebuild the entire wood processing sector”, as stated in its program presented on May 19 in Paris. It also intends to combat deforestation better.
In terms of animal welfare, Nupes wants to set new standards for breeding conditions, in particular access to the wild and cessation of cage breeding. It also plans to ban hunting-related practices, while establishing hunting-free days on weekends, public holidays and school holidays. FNE regrets, however, that some details are missing. ” We would have liked more details about the coexistence with wild species »she says.

In addition to this, despite a higher score than the Les Républicains party or the Ensemble! Coalition, FNE criticizes NUPES for not going far enough in certain issues. ” With regard to the creation of marine protected areas, Nupes does not go beyond the target already set by law. “, explains Morgane Piederrière. On the contrary, the FNE wants to increase these areas in order to better protect marine biodiversity. Details that, as far as the other parties’ proposals are concerned, leave the association confused about the funds allocated to nature. “We can always do more”, emphasizes Morgane Piederrière. The association hopes that environmental issues will have a more important place after the election result.
