The elected representatives committed themselves to this during the last council: in the new metropolitan plan for the reception and accommodation of travelers, there will be fourteen permanent reception areas, three transit areas, a large passage and a temporary plot. In total, sixteen municipalities in MEL have already validated the location of their future reception area for travelers, including Wavrin – Sainghin-en-Weppes and Haubourdin-Santes. If these two projects have been marked for years, two public meetings would still have set the debate in motion by mid-June. Some residents had rediscovered the subject there with emotion. But on Friday, MEL traded at the locations originally planned.

MEL CARD existing traveling areas and consultation

We
expected it “, Responds François Ryckebusch, communications assistant in Fournes-en-Weppes, a municipality opposite the Wavrin – Sainghin-en-Weppes area, which will be located on the outskirts of Fournes. ” But we will continue to express our opposition. We are not against areas, but we appeal to common sense. » The municipality is in the process of a lawsuit.

A public meeting had attracted nearly 200 residents of Fournes-en-Weppes almost two weeks ago.

In Santes, the idea of establishing the area on the Lever wilderness, in Haubourdin, benefited the room during the last public meeting on 20 June, despite the very high cost of pollution. Hiazid Belabbes, Mayor of Santes, had warned: ” If it fails, it is the prefect who will choose a location; it happened to a municipality that had proposed a contaminated site. “During the MEL Council, Mélissa Camara, elected EELV, reminded how the locations in toxic places led to very difficult living conditions:” The life expectancy of travelers is fifteen years less than the national average. In short, it is the original location, along Metropolitan Route 341, that has been built.

The public meeting in Santes made it possible to present the chosen location after the consultation for the Santes-Haubourdin area.

La Bassée is suspended

If the two places Wavrin – Sainghin-en-Weppes and Haubourdin-Santes are arrowed, La Bassée got a postponement. In fact, five places in seven municipalities have not yet had their proposals refined, including the La Bassée-Illies-Salomé site, which is intended for the new high-traffic area.

Why did La Bassée get a reprieve, and not Santes-Haubourdin or Wavrin-Sainghin? During the public meeting organized by MEL on May 6, in full consultation, the idea of land near the XXL warehouse in Illies-Salomé emerged from the room. And she would have, to hear the mayor of La Bassée, more chances to be heard: ” It was the first country I had suggestedassures Frédéric Cauderlier, but the mayors of Illies and Salomé were against it. MEL owns 47 hectares of land there, so there would be no need to expropriate. It will still be necessary to revegetate, so why not 4 hectares of grass are taken up two weeks a year? In addition, this place is far from houses. »

A high-traffic area (150 seats) is to be created in the La Bassée sector: the area proposed so far was near the roundabout connecting RN41 with RN47, at the entrance to the city, but in the municipalities of Illies and Salomé.
