1/ Travel insurance protects you in the event of the unexpected
Travel insurance is a contract that allows you to compensate in case of a problem during your stay. It might as well be about one health problem one incident of a different nature such as theft of your luggage, for example.
By choosing travel insurance, you can therefore be protected in the following cases:
- Cancellation of trip : this guarantee allows reimbursement of expenses if you cancel your trip;
- Loss of baggage : this cover compensates you in the event of theft, destruction or loss of your luggage and personal belongings;
- medical expenses : this cover pays for your medical treatment in case of illness or accident;
- repatriation : this guarantee covers the cost of repatriation to your country, including especially air tickets, in case of serious health problems;
- Civil liability : this warranty protects you in the event of material or physical damage caused by a third party.
2/ Travel insurance is not mandatory… but highly recommended!
You are not required to buy travel insurance unless you plan to travel to certain countries such as China, Algeria, Mongolia, Russia or Cuba.
Outside these countries is travel insurance optional. However, subscribing to one is strongly recommended. In fact, you are not immune to getting into an accident or getting sick. So while travel insurance is an added cost to your holiday budget, it allows you to make savings in case of a problem during your trip, which is not insignificant!
3/ You can benefit from travel insurance with your credit card
In some cases, it is possible to take advantage of one travel insurance with your credit card. This provides guarantees such as medical repatriation and reimbursement of medical expenses.
E.g Visa and Mastercard cards insure your trip to a stay of less than 3 months (90 days).
However, be careful: most credit card travel insurance deals are not sufficient to properly insure your stay. The reason for this: limited ceilings and get guarantees suggested. Therefore, it is more interesting to sign a travel insurance agreement with one special agency.
4/ Travel insurance is useful for holidays, but also for longer stays
This type of insurance is useful regardless of whether you are going away public holidaysto your surveys or i business trip as part of the work. The longer you stay, the more you risk e.g. to get medical expenses. There are thus formulas for stay of more than 3 months which provides better coverage than stays of less than 90 days.
5/ Health insurance does not replace travel insurance
If travel insurance can cover medical expenses, it must not be confused with health insurance.
The health insurance covers your healthcare costs if you fall ill or are hospitalized during a stay in Europe. For this you need to present your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) during your visit to a healthcare professional or hospital. You will then be compensated according to the applicable legislation in the country.
However, if you are traveling outside the EU, travel insurance can be useful to you in the event of an accident or illness. Furthermore, it is important to select your contract according to the destination you are going to. For example, medical costs in the US, Japan and Australia are very high. It is therefore necessary to choose travel insurance that covers medical care.
And now you can now go on holiday with peace of mind!
