On the night from Thursday to Friday, a ruminant was seen wandering in piece Biaggini. A nocturnal visit that revives the subject of stray animals especially since many animals, without a master, would have been counted in the territory. A report was made in the prefecture.
On the night from Thursday to Friday, the residents of the Biaggini neighborhood were awakened by the noise from clogs. In this residential area in the heart of the city, a bull had chosen to take the road to Montepiano for a night out on the town.

A situation that is not isolated.
For several years, manor animals have been a complex issue for municipal and prefectural authorities. If, according to estimates, almost 20,000 animals are to be placed in this category in Corsica, in Bastia there will be more than thirty identified. “And all those we do not know”, confided a person close to the matter.
“We heard the sound of hooves under the window”
“We have seen regular tracks of them in the streets for weeks, even near the prefecture, but this was the first time I had seen the ruminant. It must have been nearly 3 in the morning, and fortunately the street was deserted. But for seeing the extent of the beast, one might not think it was abandoned”says a local resident, surprised by this nocturnal painting.
After the cows crossed the middle of the territorial roads, the bulls fell into the swimming pools and the herds that grazed in the gardens of the public buildings, the subject is again at the center of the news with a question: what to do with these wild animals?
According to several observers, these ruminants, not ringed, would have no owner.

Over the years they would have reproduced in the wild as they roamed the city gates. The animals were seen, most often at night, on the side of Teghjime, Suerta, but also on the heights of the hospital, and they would have taken the habit of approaching the dwellings in search of water and food during these periods of high heat.
“They are no longer watered, which can make them nervous,” regrets Marilyne Taddei, victim of one of these animals, on November 7, 2020 in the Subigna district.
The trauma was significant and her wounds took a long time to heal, but since then she has chosen to fight, in search of solutions by creating the association Cambià avà..
A few days ago the cows were standing in front of his house again. In the same parking lot where it was loaded. “One evening my daughter couldn’t get out of her car, she was surrounded by ruminants”, Maryline Taddei continues. Despite the work we do with the association, nothing changes because it is politically incorrect to shoot them down.’
Animal migration: the problem remains
The situation is known, but the problem is acute.

Already in 2018, after several reports from upset residents, the municipality issued a decree that gave rise to the creation of a drop-off point for stray cows. The idea of a transitional enclosure, installed on the heights of Teghjime, closed and equipped with a corridor to lead them to the cattle cart, had been approved.
the principle? Encourage animals looking for food to drink and feed on site to avoid going down to town while looking for owners.
Only problem, these beasts have no masters and the portals are wide open. And with good reason, no more animals graze in these places. “We have no call to house these animals that cannot be reintegrated into a farm” recalls Pierre Savelli, who, after the last report, notified the prefecture services of the presence of a wandering bull in the city.
Will a next administrative search be organized? Will the wolf keepers, authorized by the prefecture of Haute-Corse and monitored by the police force, again have to post themselves hooded to ensure the safety of local residents?
So far nothing is planned.
The latest in the Bastia territory dates back to January. And often, confronted with the competent authorities in the matter, the defenders of the animal cause arise in opposition to slaughter. The answers to be given are shared. “But eThey are infected with Bovine Tuberculosis and therefore there is nothing to be done except perhaps to castrate the bulls to avoid reproduction“, states the chairman of the Cambià avè association, who” want to make everyone live up to their responsibilities in the safety of local residents. “
In two years, the association has already identified twenty victims of stray animals.
